If you begin to wonder about the ingredients in the toothpaste your family uses, you are not being paranoid. You are being a mom. Fluoride has long been the standard, but that does not imply that it is the only or the best choice.
Today, there are safer and more sophisticated options, such as nano hydroxyapatite toothpaste. As a result, more parents have discovered that they can actively care for their children’s teeth. All without worrying about how much fluoride they are consuming.
Is it time to switch to non-fluoride toothpaste? These are some of the signs and how to go about it.
Your kids swallow down more toothpaste than they spit out
Young children and toddlers do not necessarily get the ‘’spit, do not swallow’’ message, regardless of how much you are repeating it. When brushing seems like a gamble, it is time to switch to a fluoride-free mineral toothpaste.
Find a hydroxyapatite toothpaste. It is usually safe to swallow and still defends against cavities. Consequently, you won’t need to hover like a toothpaste lifeguard every night.
You are a label-reader elsewhere already
Do you purchase shampoo free of sulfates? Lotion free of parabens? Low-tox cleaning sprays? If so, you can also apply the same reasoning to toothpaste. Traditional toothpaste formulas contain unnecessary chemicals like:
- SLS (foaming agents)
- Artificial sweeteners
- Dyes, etc.
Instead, pick a non-fluoride toothpaste that does more than cleanse your family’s teeth. A hydroxyapatite toothpaste rebuilds enamel and seals tiny cracks.
One of the family members has tooth sensitivity
Is your child complaining about ice cream hurting their teeth? Do you always avoid taking ice water yourself because of tooth sensitivity? Then you may be using the wrong toothpaste, which is cleaning instead of healing.
Fluoride prevents cavities. But nano hydroxyapatite actually repairs enamel, which becomes less sensitive in the long term. Changing your toothpaste might enhance your protection.
Brushing is a daily struggle due to the minty burn
Honestly speaking, some toothpastes have a very strong mint taste. Do your children gag, grumble, or simply refuse to brush their teeth? It may not be defiance. It might be the toothpaste.
Non-fluoride alternatives are usually available in milder, natural-flavored formulas that do not burn. Just switch it tomorrow and see how brushing is no longer a bargaining process.
Your bathroom sink resembles a toothpaste aisle
So, you have one tube for toddlers, one for teens, one for the adults, and another travel tube, which you lost the cap to three months ago… It’s time to change that.
A good non-fluoride toothpaste is safe for toddlers and effective for adults, meaning a single tube can cover the entire family. Minimal clutter, minimal confusion, minimal ‘’Where did I put my toothpaste?’’
Wrapping up
If any of these signs remind you of your home, then you should change that. You need not say it: just change the toothpaste and observe how everyone reacts. It will probably result in easier and happier brushing.
